Virtual Airlines around the world!

vACC Switzerland is pleased to announce the one and only original VA-Meeting. We invite you to our major airport Zurich (LSZH) to participate in the biggest virtual flight event we provide, and which might be the biggest VA event on VATSIM. Mark the date in your calendar so you won't miss it!

Since 2007, this yearly event has become tradition and we are happy to offer you fully staffed airports again this year. However, not only Swiss controllers will be online. Our neighbours will support us to manage the massive traffic as well. Additionally, we will present you with partner airports you can fly to and from. You can expect full ATC coverage over the heart of Europe.

If you would like to experience a congested airspace over Zurich, make sure your VA participates in this huge event. We will find an appropriate gate or stand for each of you at Switzerland’s busiest airport. Please notice that all traffic in and out of Zurich will need a slot during the event (except VFR).

The event team looks forward to seeing you at the original VA-Meeting!

NEED TO KNOW

We expect a lot of traffic. Every pilot can help to make the event as enjoyable as possible for all participants. Therefore please read this carefully!

General
  • Visit our airport information page and get familiar with procedures and sceneries available.
  • The ILS of RWY 28 and 34 is not included in any default scenery. The installation of any addon scenery is highly recommended! Even the use of one of the proposed freeware sceneries makes it much easier for you to navigate on the airport and for us to provide you accurate service.
  • The ILS Frequency of RWY 14 has changed with AIRAC 1501, compare your flight simulator and FMC data to have the correct frequency ready.
  • Booking a flight is not required, but at high traffic situations flights without slot are diverted to Geneva (LSGG).
  • A code to indentify you as a pilot of a VA can be get by your VA Staff. If your VA isn't registered yet, tell your VA Staff to register.
  • This Event was especialy made for VA's, but you can of course also fly it without being member of a VA.
  • Keep your readbacks short and simple. Listen carefully to the frequency.
  • No unnecessary radio messages during high workload of the controller.
  • If you don't understand an instruction then ask. Do not guess what the controller could have meant!
  • Make readbacks as quick as possible. If this is not possible, advise the controller by something like "standby".
  • Do not call the controller while he's in a conversation with another pilot.
  • Tune in a new frequency and wait two or three seconds and listen before you call!
  • If a controller doesn't reply, the reason is most probably that he is very busy. In such a situation it doesn't make sense to send a private message to the controller to tell him that you are waiting for him. The controller will call you back in sequence.

Departures

Startup

  • Please check first, which gates are already occupied. Use the page free gates.
  • Place your aircraft at a gate. Please use a gate which fits to your aircraft size.
  • Listen to voice ATIS on 125.72 about 15-20 minutes before planned departure time.
  • Call Delivery when ready for enroute clearence and startup / pushback.

Pushback

  • After correct readback, Delivery will advise you to standby on Zurich Apron.
  • Directly tune in the new fequency and wait until the controller calls you (he will do so around 10 minutes before planned departure time).
  • Do not ask the controller for pushback and startup unless it seems that he forgot you!
  • Pushback approval ist valid for 1 minute. If you are not able to start pushback within this time then advise controller and report as soon as you are ready again.

Taxi

  • Call Apron back when ready for taxi.
  • Ground will hand you off to Tower when you are approaching the holding point, or if you have to cross an active runway.
  • If you have been instructed to standby on the Tower frequency, directly tune in the new fequency and wait until the controller calls you.

Take-off

  • Be ready for an immediate departure.
  • Do not report "rolling" or "airborne". The Tower will handoff you to Departure.
  • On initial contact with Departure report current altitude and altitude you are climbing to (there is no need to report SID, Aircraft type or what ever).
  • Do not climb above initial climb altitude without further clearance. Initial climb altitude for ALL SIDs in Zurich is 5000ft.

Arrivals

Departure-Airport

  • Strictly adhere to your slot time.
  • Be online early. Otherwise we may cancel your flight and you need a new slot.

Entering Swiss Airspace (LSAS_CTR)

  • Please listen to voice ATIS on 125.72 around 20-30 minutes before landing.
  • You may expect enroute holdings in high traffic situations.
  • If you have no slot you may be diverted to an alternate aerodrome.

Entering Approach Airspace (LSZH_APP)

  • Report the identifier of the ATIS you have listened to.
  • Report the type of ACFT you are flying on the initial call.
  • Carefully study the arrival charts. You can expect radar vectors to the ILS.
  • Be prepared for holdings. You may be cleared to enter the holding just a minute before the fix! Therefore, we highly recommend you to programm the published terminal holdings along your route in your FMS already well in advance.
  • Reduce your speed as soon as a holding is assigned and fly no faster than minimum clean speed (often about 210 kts IAS) in the holding pattern.
  • Strictly adhere to your clearance limit! If you have no clearance to fly further or no contact with the controller yet, enter the published HOLDING at your clearance limit (last point of your flightplan / assigned STAR).

Entering Final Airspace (LSZH_F_APP)

  • Report only the CALLSIGN on initial call (eg Zurich Final, Swiss 123) if not instructed otherwise.
  • Keep your calls short but do a full readback of the relevant parts.
  • Carefully study the arrival charts.
  • Cleared ILS means also, that you can descend to the intermediate approach altitude (eg ILS14 4000ft), if not otherwise instructed.

Contact Tower (LSZH_TWR)

  • Expect late landing clearence (1-2nm final).
  • You do not need the landing clearence at your minimum! But you need it before touch down.
  • Vacate as soon as possible to give way to following traffic. Do not brake too early and keep high speed.
  • Runway 14 has highspeed exits (H1/H2). There is no need to slow down to 50kt or less on the runway before vacating.

Change Apron (LSZH_N_GND)

  • If you are not sure where to taxi ask Apron.
  • Depending on traffic load it might take a while until you get taxi instructions. Please do not start taxi without an explicit taxi instruction.
  • Do not ask for things like shutdown, leaving frequency and so on when arrived at the park position.
  • If the controller seems to be busy do not transmit on the frequency anymore when arrived at the park position nor send him a private message.

After your flight(s)

  • Thanks for your participation!
  • If you like, you can send us a feedback at http://fb.vacc.ch. Thank you very much!

US vs Europe

QNH is used to describe altimeter setting.
Altimeter = (29.92 / 1013 * QNH)
QNH1014 is the same as altimeter 29.95

Visibilities and RVR in METARs are stated in meters

Transition Altitudes are usually not at 18'000ft but much lower.
In LSZH/LFSB/LSGG the TA is 7000ft. Do not mistake this with the initial climb altitude.

Frequencies are spelled with a "decimal" in place of "point".
